Statement of “Why I would like to work in this OLA position”:

I am continually amazed by the ingenuity and spirit Oregon libraries demonstrate. From the tiniest rural public library to the largest academic library, libraries show how essential they are to their communities. For me, and I'm guessing for many others, OLA has helped inspire me to find those new and better ways to serve. It would be an honor to help spread that inspiration and further encourage the collaboration that Oregon libraries already do so well.

Statement of “Why I would like to work in this OLA position”:

I am passionate in many aspects of my life, but none more so than librarianship.  Interacting with my staff, with our patrons and with other library professionals fulfills me.  I advocate for libraries every day because I believe they are fundamental to the well-being of the community.  


It doesn’t matter if yours is an academic, public, school or special library; we all strive to provide our constituencies with the best programs and services possible.  We also know that to provide the best programs and services we can’t live in a bubble nor let our geographic isolation hinder us.  Membership in, and service to, the Oregon Library Association is one way to safeguard against that isolation.  I am honored to be nominated for this position and will do my best – understanding that I have a lot to learn – to serve the membership of the Association.

Statement of “Why I would like to work in this OLA position”:

I believe that I am uniquely qualified to be successful as the OLA secretary. I have a proven-track record of professional service both at the state and national levels. My work requires a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy, and I believe that those qualities are essential in maintaining records and creating minutes for OLA meetings, which would be a major function of the position. As a matter of course, I take extremely detailed notes during meetings, and I believe that the position of OLA secretary would suit my natural inclination.

Statement of "Why I would like to work in this OLA position":
Belonging to OLA has provided me opportunities for professional development and collaboration. I am passionate about advocating for libraries in Oregon and specifically rural libraries. As an OLA member I have made contacts across the state, these contacts have been invaluable in my career. Working as secretary for OLA would allow me to continue making connections and advocating for libraries. I would be proud to serve OLA in this capacity.

  • As CSD CSLP Chair, I served as liaison between the Oregon library community and the national organization, CSLP, representing local interests to a larger group.

  • I am dedicated to library service, and have an appreciation for all library services and all job classifications. I love opportunities to work and connect with library staff both in my field of youth services and out of my field.

  • I am a constructive voice is group discussions.

  • I am a networker, and value what it does for me personally as a professional, but also what it brings back to different works groups. I am good at learning from others’ experiences and translating that to others.

  • I am not comfortable with staying with the status-quo.

 

Statement of "Why I would like to work in this OLA position":

I really value both my OLA and ALA memberships, and getting to work with others on both the state and national level. I appreciate that this has been an opportunity that not everyone has, and feel that I am the person that can be an effective go-between creating greater efficiency and bringing value to those that have to choose one or the other.  I am really looking forward to connecting with others on both a state and national level, and continuing service to the Oregon library community.

  • Forward-thinking:  I am fascinated by what might be the next great adventure for individuals within an organization, and an organization as a whole, while still learning from the lessons of past experiences.

  • Collaborative:  I actively look for, and invest in, synergistic opportunities to find common goals between groups and organizations, while deeply valuing the embarrassment of riches which can result.

  • Passionate:  I am deeply committed to the work of libraries, and even more deeply enthusiastic about discovering any and all ways to advocate for the transformative power of libraries.

Statement of "Why I would like to work in this OLA position":

​As library and information professionals, we do more than take care of ​materials; we engage and transform entire communities.  When I step into an OLA event, ​I immediately want to​ bottle the energy, enthusiasm and passion of ​my fellow members.  ​I would love to support OLA as we continue to embrace diversity and ​celebrate creativity​.  ​OLA can be a place to explore potential, to ​push the boundaries, a place where members can think, dream, create, and cultivate.  I would like nothing more than to be a part of that ​evolving perspective and to be a part of OLA’s ongoing story.​
