The Theodor Seuss Geisel Award
Recognizes the author and illustrator of a book for beginning readers who, through their literary and artistic achievements, demonstrate creativity and imagination to engage children in reading.  

Become an expert in evaluating, selecting, and recommending books for beginning readers by taking a deep-dive into the Geisel Award for early readers.  You will learn about the award, and the criteria used by the committee to critically evaluate and select outstanding books for early readers. Practice using the criteria to evaluate books in moderated book discussions with your peers. Hear from past committee members about serving on the national Geisel Committee. Guest speakers will introduce current research and issues surrounding early readers.There will also be snacks, trivia, and time to connect with colleagues. And as a grand finale, vote for Oregon’s Mock Geisel Award and Honor Winners for 2020.  

Don’t have time to read the books ahead of time?  No problem! Come at 9:15 am for coffee, networking and reading of books.  This is optional, program officially starts at 10 am.
